Stanwood, Ia.--John Doudney, age 89 years, pioneer resident of Stanwood, and a Civil War veteran, died Saturday evening following a long illness, at the home of his son Dice, between Stanwood and Wyoming.

Born near Trenton, in the state of New Jersey, June 26, 1843, he came to Cedar county when a small boy settling in Ayresville neighborhood. He enlisted in Company G Eleventh Iowa Infantry, a Davenport in 1862. His company took part in the campaign around Chickamauga, and the siege of Vicksburg, and was with Sherman's army marching through Georgia.

Mr. Doudney was employed by the North Western railroad in Stanwood for many years. Three children are surviving: Dice Doudney of Wyoming, Joe Doudney at Nebraska and Mrs. Sadie Honeyacre of Chicago.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Stanwood Methodist church. The American Legion Post of Stanwood was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
