10 July 1873 - The Tipton Advertiser

DIED at the residence of her grand-daughter, Mrs. Benj. Bossert, in Tipton, Thursday, June 24th, Mrs. SARAH E. DENTON, aged seventy-two years.

She was born in New Jersey, and removed to southern Ohio in childhood; in 1838 she, with her husband, and family, came to Iowa and settled in Cedar Co., where she spent the rest of her life.

She gave her heart to Christ in early youth, and united with the M.E. Church, of which she remained a consistent member until her death. Her last sufferings, though most intense, were borne with true Christian patience; and she gave evidence that the dark valley of death was filled with light by the presence of the Saviour she had loved so long.

"Say, why should friendship weep for those
Who safe arrive on Canann's shore;
Released from all their earthly foes,
They are not lost--but gone before.
"How many painful days on earth;
Their painful spirits numbered o'er?
Now they enjoy a heavenly birth;
They are not lost--but gone before.
"Dear is the spot where Christians sleep,
And sweet the strain which angels pour;
O, why should be in anguish weep
They are not lost--but gone before."
Tipton, July 7th, 1873.
