9 May 1935 - The Tipton Advertiser

Tipton community was called upon Saturday to part with another of its esteemed residents, Clarence Carl, who was widely known throughout the county and highly respected by all. Though he had not been well for a number of weeks, his death came as a shock to his family and the host of friends who had long enjoyed his kindly humor and pleasant manner.

Clarence Carl was born July 29th, 1884, near Bennett, Iowa, the son of Grant and Rose Carl. His mother departed this life in 1930.

Clarence and Nora Wacker of Wilton were united in marriage February 7th, 1908, and this union which lasted twenty-seven year, was blessed with two daughters, Beatrice and Genevieve.

Seventeen years ago, shortly after the family had moved to Tipton, Mr. Carl submitted to an operation for infection of the lungs, from which he never fully recovered.

Mr. Carl and his family attended the Lutheran Church at Stanwood, where he held membership. Easter Sunday he with his family partook of Holy Communion. The Monday after Easter, April 22, he was stricken by apoplexy and passed away Saturday, May 4th, at 8:00 A.M. at the age of fifty years, nine months and fifteen days.

Beside the sorrowing wife Nora, and his two daughters, Beatrice of Pittsburg, and Genevieve of Tipton, there are left to mourn, his father Grant Carl of Tipton, two sisters Mrs. Stella Schiele of near Downey and Mrs. Vera Crapser of Clinton, Ia.; one brother, Harry Carl, of Bennett, and other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Clarence Carl were conducted from the Methodist Episcopal Church in Tipton, Monday afternoon at half past two. The Rev. Roscoe C. Jerrell was in charge of the service, with the Rev. Mr. Nagler of Stanwood preaching the sermon. A quartet composed of Dr. Kenneth Walker, Mr. D. J. Kelley, Mr. O. M. Mayes and Mr. Frank Gordon sang three selections with Mrs. C. C. Crawford accompanying at the organ. Interment was in the Masonic cemetery.
