18 April 1895 - The Tipton Advertiser

William Rarick was born in Hanover, Germany, December 25th, 1818, and died at his home in Cedar county, Iowa, April 9th, 1895, aged 76 years, 8 months and 14 days.

He came from Germany and settled in Ohio in 1834, and in 1842 he was married to Miss Lydia Wise who died a few years later, leaving two small children. He came with his children to Iowa in the spring of 1851 where he married Miss Julia Pirkey, June 20th, 1852, who preceded him to the better land July 14th, 1892, leaving three children. Religiously his life was an example. He united with the Lutheran church when but 14 years old, and soon after coming to Iowa he united with the M. E. church and continued a member of that church until his death. Although the last few years of his life on account of feebleness of health he attended the Presbyterian church and enjoyed their fellowship. Mr. Rarick leaves five children to mourn the loss of a beloved father, all of whom were present at his bedside during his last few days and heard his departing testimony of his hope in the better life. The departed was a good man whose life as a Christian was consistent with his profession. Those who know him best cherish his memory the most. He was always ready with his money and prayers to support the cause of God which he loved. The life of the deceased was a success. By industry he had provided enough of this world's goods for a comfortable old age and had deposited in the Bank of Heaven a goodly store.

The funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church at Sugar Creek where a large concourse of people were gathered to pay their last respects to the departed. W. F. Bacon, pastor of Bethel M. E. church, assisted by the Rev. Macauly conducted the services and laid the remains to rest in the Sharon cemetery.
