13 August 1896 - The Tipton Advertiser

Ellen I. Cousins was born in County Tyrone, Ireland, May 16th, 1839, and came early to America. She was married to B. J. Rodgers Oct. 21, 1857, in Red Oak Grove, Cedar county, Iowa. The family consisted of Dr. Alonzo E. Rodgers, stepson, Sarah M. Rodgers, only daughter, Herman Beatty and Herbert Edward, twins, born July 30th, 1869, and who died on the 3d and 5th of September, 1869; M. H. Mack Rodgers, adopted November 17th, 1869. Of these, Geo., Miss Sarah and M. H. Mack, with Mr. Rodgers, survive.

The family removed to Tipton in 1877, where they have since had a most delightful home. Mrs. Rodgers united with the Presbyterian church of Red Oak Grove in 1861, and with the Tipton Presbyterian church on moving to town. She has always been loyal to her church and her Master.

After several months of patient and uncomplaining suffering, Mrs. Rodgers passed away Monday evening, Aug. 10th, 1896. Ever anxious and thoughtful for the welfare of others, faithful in duty, submissive in trial and most helpful in church society and home, she is mourned by a large number of relatives and friends who remember her with love and gratitude, and who can only rejoice that she has passed from suffering into the peace of eternal life.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. W. Johnson at the home of the deceased. Appropriate music was rendered by Mesdames McBarney and Delaplane and Messrs. Lower and Bundy.

The remains were interred at the Red Oak cemetery.
