12 February 1920 - The West Branch Times

Ethel Phoebe Wickersham was born at West Branch, Iowa, March 21, 1880. She was a daughter of Caleb and Phoebe Wickersham. Feb. 27, 1901, she was united in marriage to Ray Aldeman and to this union seven children were born, Clifford Frederick, Pardon Jessie, Jennie Ruth, Florence Beatrice, Ardel Terry, Caleb Wickersham, and Archie who died at the age of nine months.

Mrs. Wickersham was taken very suddenly ill while visiting in Des Moines and passed away February 6, 1920, at the age of 39 years, 11 months and 16 days. She leaves to mourn their loss, her husband, six children, her father, C. H. Wickersham, and sister, Bessie, of Des Moines, a sister, Bertha, of Ollie, Iowa, a sister, Stella, of Peru, Indiana, a brother, Archie, of Jefferson Berracks, Mo., and a brother, Raymond H. of Estherville, Iowa.

Why a life should be taken when just at the zenith of its task we do not know. Calm faith tells us that it was for the best somehow. Sister Wickersham was a member of the Presbyterian church. God's mysteries are not kept from us always and some day we will understand.

The funeral service was held in the West Branch Methodist church Sunday afternoon, Feb. 8 and Rev. Glenn Rowley spoke a message of comfort from the fourteenth chapter of the Gospel of John. Interment was in the local cemetery.
