18 October 1945 - The Clarence Sun

Lucy Jeanette Vaughn was born near Wyoming, Iowa, August 23, 1869, and departed this life Oct. 12, 1945, the daughter of P. L. and Lydia Vaughn.

Miss Vaughn was married to Elwood S. Kirkpatrick July 22, 1890.

Surviving are the husband; two sons, Howard and Elwood, of Clarence; one daughter, Mrs. Marian Hovey, of Coon Rapids, Iowa; ten grandchildren; one great grandchild; four brothers and three sisters, Edwin of Wyoming, Alton of Cedar Rapids, Fred and Harry of Hartford, Kans., Mrs. Stella Parr of Wyoming, Mrs. Edna Francis of Wisconsin Dells, Wis., and Mrs. Susie Brasted of Denver, Colorado.

Those preceding her in death were two brothers and one sister, Rudolph of Murdo, S. D., Geo. of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Flora Babcock of Des Moines.

Shortly after her marriage she joined the Presbyterian church of Clarence, later transferred her membership to the Wesleyan Methodist of Dayton Valley where she was an active member for many years. She was treasurer of the conference missionary society for a number of years and president of the local society until her health failed and was not able to attend. Her regret was that she could not attend all the services of the church she loved so well. She was a firm believer in prayer, and always asked for prayer during her last illness.

She will be missed in the church where she had attended so many years. What is our loss is her gain.

Her last days were spent in the home of her oldest son, Howard, where every desire and wish was fulfilled by her loved ones. She quietly slipped away to be with her Lord.

The funeral was held Sunday afternoon in the Dayton Valley church, conducted by Rev. Mrs. Elsie Stephens and Rev. E. A. Anderson of Walker, followed by interment in the Dayton Valley cemetery. The pallbearers were Harry Feddersen, Ingwer Christophersen, Ludwig Petersen, Kenneth Frink, Lee Freeman and Ronald Kirkpatrick.

In charge of flowers were Gladys Rogers and Alice Decker.

Those attending the funeral from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Lindsey, Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn Lindsey, Mr. and Mrs. Alton Vaughn, Mrs. Harry Carbaugh, Mr. and Mrs. Will Brink, all of Cedar Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. E. Nebergall, Mrs. Emma Nauman, Mrs. Abbie Gerber, Mrs. Elsie Shell, all of Tipton; Mrs. Stella Parr, Edwin Vaughn, Mr. and Mrs. Sampson, of Wyoming; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hammond and Elwood, of Marion; Mr. and Mrs. Julius Van Sickle, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Shaffer, Mr. and Mrs. Perry Ballou, of Springfield; Elliott Baird, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Clay, Willard and Lucile of Center Point; and Mrs. E.
