18 October 1945 - The Clarence Sun

Charles Bixler, the second son of David Wilson and Jane E. Bixler, was born on January 27, 1876, at the farm home 2 1/2 miles northwest of Clarence, Iowa.

He remained at home during his early life while attending the district and Clarence schools. During this time he united with the Presbyterian church and retained this membership throughout the remainder of his life.

After leaving home as a young man he worked in Clarence until he purchased a meat market which he continued to operate for about ten years.

He was united in marriage with Lucie V. Miller on January 31, 1900, and to them was born one daughter who passed away in infancy.

Because of poor health he sold his butcher shop and took up other work for a time but was never so well satisfied as when he was farming. He purchased a farm near Clarence which he operated until about two years ago when he sold it because the work was too heavy. He then moved back into Clarence and purchased an unimproved 80 acres which he farmed from his residence in town until his passing away on October 11, 1945.

Besides his widow, he leaves three sisters and two brothers, Emily May Bixler and Irma V. Decker of Clarence, Sadie E. Young of Ames, George of Clarence and Ingram of Cedar Rapids. Two brothers have preceded him in death, Carl of Moline, who died in March, 1932, and Raymond of Clarence who passed away in April 1941. He also leaves a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held at the Methodist church on Saturday afternoon and was conducted by Rev. Bernard Kemper. Burial in the Clarence cemetery followed.
