Clara Belle Lyle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Harness, was born March 22, 1884, in Shelby County, Iowa, and passed away April 4th, 1945, at the University hospital at Iowa City, age 61 years and 12 days.

She was educated in the public school of Defiance, and at the State Teachers' College, Cedar Falls. She spent many years in the teaching profession.

She was united in marriage to Harmond J. McKnight, on January 30th, 1906. To this union were born twin sons, Howard and Harold. Mr. McKinght passed away on March 16th, 1910.

Mrs. McKnight lived a number of years in Shelby County, moving to Clarence in 1920.

She married Arthur W. Lyle June 14th, 1922. They made their home in Clarence until 1939, when they moved to Tipton, and lived there until the time of her passing.

Those surviving her departure are her husband, Arthur W. Lyle; her sons, Howard W. McKnight of Camp Butner, N.C., and his wife Dorothy; Harold W. McKnight, of Burlington, Iowa, and his wife Audella; her step-daughter, Genevieve Rose Jones, of Denver, Colorado; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George W. Harness of Clarence; and five sisters, Mrs. Nora McCord of Malvern, Iowa, Mrs. Martha Crist of Selma, Iowa, Mrs. Caroline Ray and Mrs. Sarah Hulsebus of Worthington, Minn., and Mrs. Katherine Wright of Los Angeles, Calif.

Mrs. Lyle was preceded in death by her youngest sister, Elsie Kinsey, in 1927. She is also survived by three brothers, John Harness of Mechanicsville, George and William of Clarence.

She was a member of the Church of Christ of Defiance, Iowa, and retained her membership there until the time of her death. She was a charter member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter at Defiance, Iowa, and at the time of her death was a member of the Tipton Chapter No. 367. She was an active member of the Women's Society of Christian Service, and the Philathean S. S. Class of the Methodist Church of Tipton.

The funeral was held at the Clarence Methodist church on Saturday afternoon and was conducted by Rev. Roscoe B. Sire, assisted by Rev. A. B. Chamberlin. Interment followed in the Clarence cemetery. The singers were Mrs. R. C. Kastler, Mrs. Eleanor Sawyer, Lloyd Phillips, Marvin Schilling, with Mrs. Schilling at the piano. Pallbearers: J. C. Coonrod, A. W. Kemmann, Dean Heltman, Harry Crist, Dewey Rhatigan, Earl Elijah.

Those from a distance who came for the funeral services for Mrs. A. W. Lyle and many who visited in the home of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Ronald Harness, Dodge City, Kans.; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Harness, Mechanicsville; Mr. and Mrs. Ivan McCord, Malvern; Mrs. Glen Fowler, Neola; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Crist, Douds; Melvin Crist, Douds; Mr. and Mrs. George Crist and Harry Eddie, Letts; Ralph Ray, Davenport; Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Ramsey, Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Ramsey, Aledo, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Boultinghouse, Mrs. Glen Boultinghouse, Reynolds, Ill.; Mrs. Lawrence Boultinghouse, Mr. and Mrs. George Baker, Aledo, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Gay, Tipton.
