12 April 1945 - The Clarence Sun

Mrs. Genevieve Ferguson Flansburg, after a prolonged illness, died at the Mason City Nursing home at 2 a.m. on Monday, April 2nd, after being a patient in the home a week. Her daughter, Mrs. D. Veva Christianson, was with her when she went peacefully to her eternal sleep.

Mrs. Flansburg was born July 10, 1864, in Cedar county and spent her childhood and young womanhood in Clarence. She was the daughter of well known early day residents of this vicinity, the late Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Ferguson. Her marriage to J. A. Flansburg, who was employed for many years as a station agent by the C. & N-W. Ry., took her from Clarence. For the greatest length of the time of married life they lived at Glidden. At Mr. Flansburg's retirement they re-purchased the Ferguson home in Clarence and came back to once more take up life here.

She was a member of the Clarence Methodist church.

In the fall of 1938 they went to Mason City to spend the winter at the Christianson home on account of the condition of her health. She grew no better and they continued to live at Mason City. In the spring of 1941 they sold the home and took away their personal belongings. Mr. Flansburg died in September, 1942.

Surviving are Mrs. Christiansen; a son, J. E. Flansburg of Glen Ellyn, Ill.; and four grandchildren, Cpl. Gilbert Christianson, AAF, James and Dorothea Flansubrg, Glen Ellyn, and Mrs. F. J. Zeman, Dayton, Ohio. A sister, Mrs. Josie P. Messinger, Council Bluffs, and a brother, J. P. Ferguson, Pasadena, Calif., also survive. Four sisters preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. following her death, at the Patterson funeral home in Mason City. Doctor Marvin B. Kober of the First Methodist church officiated. Because of weather conditions, burial was not made in Memorial Park cemetery until Friday morning.

Out-of-town relatives who attended included Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Flansburg, Dorothea and James, all of Glen Ellyn, Ill., and Mrs. Gilbert Christianson of Des Moines.
