Henry John Voelker, born on a farm in Woodford county, Ill., Feb. 9, 1884, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Casper Voelker. He attended high school at Metamora, Ill. Following graduation he taught a country school one year.

On Feb. 16, 1909, he was united in marriage to Gertrude Clingman, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Clingman, also of Woodford county, Ill. In the spring of 1909 they moved to a farm northwest of Olin where they lived eleven years.

To this couple five children were born. Frances Caroline who preceded him in death, C. E. Voelker of Manchester, Harlan Voelker of Stanwood, Melvin Voelker of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Dorothy Heeren of Mt. Vernon.

In 1910 Mr. Voelker purchased the farm north of Stanwood where he lived until his health forced his retirement in 1944. Mr. Voelker was active in civic work. He joined the United Presbyterian church in Stanwood where he was a devoted member and served as a trustee for several years. He was also a member of the school board for several years.

Mr. Voelker passed away at his home in Stanwood where he has lived the past eleven years. Death came suddenly at the age of 71 years, 1 month and 12 days.

He is survived by his devoted wife, three sons, one daughter, ten grandchildren, one brother of Washington, Il. and a host of relatives and friends. One brother, Herman, of Low Point, Ill., preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon at two o'clock at the Presbyterian church. Rev. Hull of Muscatine officiated. Burial in the Stanwood cemetery.
