23 October 1952 - The Clarence Sun

Albert D. Young, of 716 Sixth Street, passed away at Ames, on Friday, October 17, 1952, of a heart condition of long standing. Services were held at the home in Ames at 9:30 Monday morning, October 20, and at the Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence on Monday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock. Interment was in the Clarence cemetery.

Albert David Young, second child of Sarah Ellen and Jacob Albert Young, was born at York Prairie, near Clarence, Iowa, August 7, 1873. When one year of age, he was taken by his parents to Roscoe Township, Kansas, where he grew to manhood.

On August 5, 1903, he was united in marriage to Sadie Ellen Bixler at the Wilson and Jane Bixler family residence north of Clarence. Four children were born to this union: Lois, Irma, Alberta, and Lowell Albert the second child and only son who died in infancy. Except for four years' residence at Kingman and Pretty Prairie, Kansas, the family lived the following thirty-nine years in the Clarence community. In December, 1943, Mr. and Mrs. Young moved to their home in Ames.

As a young man, Mr. Young joined the United Presbyterian Church in Pretty Prairie, Kansas. Upon the establishment of his home at Clarence, Iowa, he joined the First Methodist Episcopal Church there, and transferred that membership to the First Methodist Church in Ames in 1943, where he attended as long as physically able. When no longer able to attend church, he enjoyed worship services over the radio.

Mr. Young is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sadie Young, three daughters, Mrs. Lois Meyer, Lincoln, Nebraska, Mrs. Irma Paul, Gilman, Iowa, and Mrs. Alberta Tennant, Pueblo, Colorado; two grandchildren, Judith Paul and Timothy Tennant; one brother and two sisters of Pretty Prairie, Kansas; and three sisters of Wichita, Kansas. The brother and sisters from Kansas were unable to attend the services because of ill health; however, a nephew and his family, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Young and Mrs. and Mrs. Robert Young, of Topeka, Kansas, were present.
