Mrs. Lena Syring, was born on February 1, 1872, at Leese, Germany, to Dietrich and Caroline Becker Helmold.

At the age of six years, she came with her parents to the United States.

On October 23, 1891, she was united in marriage with John Syring at Lowden, Iowa, and this union was blessed with six children.

The Syring's made their first home on a farm east of Tipton until 1919 when they moved to Clarence. Mr. Syring passed away December 24, 1933.

Mrs. Syring was a member of St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church, the Women's Guild, and a Gold Star Mother of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She passed away December 21, 1953, having reached the age of 81 years, 10 months and 20 days.

Surviving are three daughters: Frieda--Mrs. Emil Stuhr, Bennett, Iowa; Martha--Mrs. August Schroeder, Tipton, Iowa; Emma--Mrs. Raymond Doermann, Clarence, Iowa. Four sisters: Mrs. Emma Geadelmann, Tipton, Iowa, Mrs. Ida Conrad, Mrs. Amanda Conrad and Mrs. Augusta Bergmann, all of Clarence, Iowa. Three brothers: Louis Helmold, Moscow, Iowa, Fred Helmold, Lowden, Iowa, Otto Helmold, Clarence, Iowa. Seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by 1 daughter and 2 sons; 1 sister and 3 brothers.

Funeral services were held at St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church in Clarence at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 23, 1953, and were conducted by Rev. Edward J. Bowers. Music was by a mixed quartet accompanied at the church organ by Rosalee Hartwig. In charge of the many beautiful floral pieces were Mrs. Carl Moir, Mrs. Anna Klatt and Amanda Geadelmann. Pallbearers were Raymond Conrad, Herman Helmold, Norman Conrad, Walter Helmold, Otto Edler and Arnold Geadelmann.

Interment was made in the family lot at St. John's cemetery.
