When he was still a young boy the family moved to Kossuth where he attended the schools and grew to manhood. After graduation from high school he attended the University of Iowa, thus preparing himself for his life work.

On November 3, 1915, he was united in marriage to Mimmie Nordstrom of Mediapolis, Iowa. After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Coonrod moved to Winfield, in Henry county, Iowa where Mr. Coonrod occupied the position of cashier of the Winfield State Bank for a period of eighteen years. The following nine years were spent in Clarence where he was cashier of the First National Bank.

In the year 1941 he accepted the position of Clerk of the District Court of Cedar county. He held this position until a few weeks ago when forced to retire because of ill health.

Mr. Coonrod was an efficient and conscientious worker. With him the ideal of service to mankind was uppermost. His attitude was one motivated by sincerity and helpfulness in each and every transaction. Interest in his work remained keen and active long after his physical strength had begun to fail. He brought his best efforts into his labor "a true workman that needeth not to be ashamed."

J. C. Coonrod was a member of the Masonic Lodge having served as Master and in many different offices of that organization.

He has been a member of the Methodist Church and through the years has freely given himself to its work and support.

He passed away at his home in Tipton on Friday afternoon, November 20th, 1953, at the age of 66 years, 5 months and 5 days.

Besides many friends he is survived by his wife, Mrs. J. C. Coonrod, and an aunt, Mrs. Luella Rodgers, living in Mediapolis. His only sister preceeded him in death several years ago.
