Mrs. Amanda Goldsmith was born in Springfield Township, Cedar County, Iowa, on February 14, 1886 to Mr. and Mrs. Louie Rix nee Meier.

On February 5, 1908 she was united in marriage with Gus. H. Goldsmith. This union was blessed with six sons.

They were engaged in farming in the Clarence vicinity until four year ago when they moved to the town of Clarence. Mrs. Goldsmith passed away at the family home on Saturday, May 2, 1953, having reached the age of 67 years, 2 months and 18 days.

She was a member of St. John's church, Guild and Sewing Circle and the Amvets Auxiliary.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband and five sons: Marvin L. of Clarence, Harlen H. of Davenport, Richard C. of Martelle, Warren M. of Clarence and Vernon with the Armed Forces in Germany; 10 grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Henry Biere of Olin; and four brothers, Wm. and Hugo of Clarence, Herman of Lowden and Charles of Storm Lake.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Harold.

Funeral services were held at St. John's Evangelical and Reformed church on Tuesday, May 5th, 1953, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Edward J. Bowers in charge. The music was furnished by a mixed quartette accompanied by Eleanor Conrad. Floral tributes were in charge of Mrs. Allison Stolte, Mrs. Verda Freese and Mrs. Delores Shinner. Pallbearers were Robert Rix, Raymond Biere, Robert Crist, Donald Crist, Howard Biere and Raymond Richman.

Interment was made in St. John's cemetery.
