Leona Catherine Dierks was born May 7, 1896 at Andover, Iowa, to John and Caroline Petersen Gehlsen.

On March 19, 1919, she was united in marriage with Detlef P. Dierks at Clinton, Iowa, and this union was blessed with 6 sons.

The deceased resided in the Clarence-Stanwood community the past 19 years.

Mrs. Dierks passed away at the family home on April 1, 1953, having reached the age of 56 years, 10 months and 24 days.

She was a member of Idelle Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star of Stanwood, Iowa.

Mrs. Dierks is survived by her husband; 5 sons: Glenn of Clarence; Jack of Seattle, Washington; Robert of Tipton; and Junior and Donavon in the family home. Also 4 sisters: Mrs. Anna Naeve of Andover, Iowa, Mrs. Marie Edwards of St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. Vena Petersen of Andover, Iowa and Mrs. Elfrieda Luders of DeWitt, Iowa. Two brothers: J. C. Gehlsen of Andover, Iowa and H. L. Gehlsen of St. Paul, Minn; also 2 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, one brother and one sister.

Services were conducted in St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church, Clarence, on Saturday afternoon, April 4, 1953, at 1:30 o'clock and were conducted by Rev. Edward J. Bowers. The music was furnished by a mixed quartette who was accompanied by Eleanor Conrad at the organ. In charge of the floral pieces were Mrs. John Swift, Mrs. L. W. Meyer and Mrs. Clarence Allemand. The pallbearers were four of her sons and two nephews: Glenn Dierks, Robert Dierks, Jack Dierks, Junior Dierks, Willie Petersen and Detlef P. Naeve, Jr.

Interment was made in the Elvira, Iowa cemetery at which an Eastern Star graveside service was given.
