23 January 1958 - The Clarence Sun

William Mixell, third child in a family of eight, of John and Sarah Barrick Mixell was born at Newville, Pennsylvania, December 29, 1876 and died January 14, 1958 at the age of 81 years and 15 days. In this community, he grew up to young manhood.

On December 25, 1894, he was married to Mary Stouffer at Mt. Tabor, Pennsylvania by the Rev. A. N. Horn. Hearing of the greater opportunities of the West through a brother, who had come earlier, William and his wife came to Iowa in 1900 and settled in Cedar County.

Having had no opportunity for a formal education, he received it in the school of experience. He worked as an hireling for a few years, then began to farm for himself. At this he had a measure of success and made a comfortable living and accumulated some property. By his buying and selling of farms over a rather large territory in Cedar County, and dealing largely in livestock, he made a large acquantanship, which was a pleasant memory in his declining years. When failing health made the operation of a farm burdensome, he and his wife, of nearly sixty years, moved to Tipton. After the passing of his wife on March 14, 1956, he maintained his own home until the last month, which he spent in the Woode Nursing Home in Tipton. He often expressed appreciation of the helpfulness of his neighbors, and the kindness of the Nursing Home during his lonely days.

In more recent years, he and his wife became members of the Pleasant View Church of the Brethren.

He is survived by five brothers: Andrew, in the Kleinecke Nursing Home at Onslow, Iowa; John of Albany, Oregon; Ambrose of Stanwood; Robert and Harry of Tipton; and a number of nieces and nephews.

His parents, one brother, Daniel, and his only sister Rebecca, preceded him in death.

Having had no children of their own, they gave a home to Mr. Mixell's nephew and niece, William and Addie McCausland, for a number of years, and also to Albert and Juanita (now Mrs. Raymond Vitense) Schoonover.
