John Henry Wenndt was born at Gerdau, Province Hannover, Prussia, Germany, on September 28, 1828. He died at his home here in Lowden on June 30, 1912, thus reaching the high age of 83 years, nine months and two days.

Mr. Wenndt was married to Miss Margaret Duever on November 29, 1858, in Germany, thus having lived together a married life for over fifty-three years. To this union was born seven sons and two daughters, of which three boys and one daughter died in infancy.

The deceased came to America in 1861 and at first settled in DuPage county, Ill. He and his family remained there until 1866 when they came to Iowa to near Lowden and have lived on a farm about one mile north of town ever since until about ten years ago when they came to town to reside.

Mr. Wenndt was well known here having lived in the neighborhood of Lowden for so long. He was well like and respected by all who knew him.

He leaves to mourn his demise his widow, four sons and four daughters-in-law, one daughter and one son-in-law and thirty-five grandchildren. Funeral was held Wednesday afternoon with services at the Lutheran church. Rev. Brammer officiated. A large number of relatives and friends were present at the services. Several beautiful floral pieces were brought to the casket as gifts and tokens of love and respect by the relatives and friends. He was laid to rest in the Lowden cemetery.
