Final rites for Joseph Oscar Svoboda, 79, were held at the Horner Funeral home Oct. 24, with the Rev. James Nelson officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery.

Pallbearers were Joe, Louie and Maurice Gamble, Clarence Svoboda, John Kahl and Bob Ruble.

Mr. Svoboda died at St. Luke's hospital, Cedar Rapids Oct. 21.

The son of Frank and Anna Lev Svoboda, he was born at Mt. Vernon Dec. 21, 1891 and was educated in the schools of the Mt. Vernon area. He was married to Grace Ruble at Tipton Jan. 25, 1916.

He spent most of his life in the Lisbon and Mechanicsville areas.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Marian Longerbeam, Marion; 2 sons, Glen and Vern, both of Mechanicsville, 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, a son, Charles, a brother, Frank and 3 sisters, Mrs. Barbara Gamble, Mrs. Rose Stabenow and Mrs. Anna Prohaska.
