Last rites for Kenneth Gene Edler, 24, were held at First United Church of Christ Aug. 23 with the Rev. Dale Marshall officiating. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Pallbearers were Duane Roling, Greg Wahl, Mark Grove, Jack Dye, Dan Evers and Dale Kunde. Dr. C. D. Christianson was vocalist and Mrs. Arnold Swan was organist. Mr. and Mrs. Monte Gaul and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Silver were in charge of flowers.

Edler's body was found in a parked car near Bussey, a small Marion county town southwest of Oskaloosa. Death was caused by a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the medical examiner reported. He died about 4 p.m. Aug. 20. His body was found approximately 5 hours later.

The son of Fred and Selma Alyea Edler, he was born at Davenport July 6, 1952. He graduated from Tipton high school in 1970, where he was a member of the National Honor Society and was a wrestler and received all-state mention in football.

He graduated from Iowa State University, Ames, with a degree in electrical engineering in 1974. He had been working with his father since that time and had gone to Oskaloosa a week before his death to work as an electrical engineer.

He was a member of First United Church of Christ and the Iowa State Alumni association.

He is survived by his parents, 4 sisters, Mrs. Robert (Virginia) Hughes, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Bill (Kathy) Bails, Stanwood; Mrs. Robert (Faye) DeWulf, Clarence, and Barbara, at home; a brother, Jeffrey, at home; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Clara Alyea and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Emma Edler, both of Tipton, a nephew and a niece.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers.
