Upon his return home from army service, the Carrolls made their home in Clinton, Iowa, where he resumed his work on the railroad for about one year. After that he was under medical care.

He was Past Commander of the American Legion. He was highly respected by his "buddies" and a host of friends. His family will always remember him as a loving husband and a faithful father.
