Funeral services were held Dec. 27 at the Chapman Funeral home, Clarence, for John Swift, with the Rev. Calvin Schumacher in charge. Burial was at Stanwood where the Hegarty Busching Post American Legion conducted military rites.

John Swift, the son of Edward and Eolia Cooley Smith, was born Aug. 5, 1906 in Jones county and died Dec. 24 at St. Luke's hospital, Cedar Rapids, where he had been a patient since Dec. 22 following a lingering illness.

He was the youngest of a family of 5 boys and 4 girls. After moving to Stanwood he had lived his entire life in one home. He graduated in the 1924 class from the Stanwood high school. He was united in marriage with Ruth Poston in Tipton Feb. 27, 1938. During World War II he served with a corps of engineers in Europe, 1942-45.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth, 2 sisters, Mrs. Margaret Hart, and Oka Swift, Long Beach, Calif. A brother, Glen Swift, Cedar Rapids and several nieces and nephews.
