Last rites for Lumir J. Stancel, 58, Mechanicsville farmer, were held at Cedar Rapids Dec. 16 with the Rev. A. T. Washington officiating. Burial was in Andersen cemetery near Swisher. The American Legion conducted grave-side services.

Mr. Stancel was found at his home west of Mechanicsville by Victor Gaul, Tipton, Dec. 13. Gaul had come to the farm to repair a tractor. Death was due to a self-inflicted shotgun wound Dec. 11.

He was born near Cedar Rapids May 8, 1914 and had farmed in the Mechanicsville area for 15 years. He had lived alone on the farm since the death of his mother about 10 years ago.

He was a veteran of World War II when he served in the army for 4 1/2 years. He was a member of the Stinocher post of the American Legion at Solon.

He is survived by 4 sisters, Mrs. Ed Volesky, Swisher; Mrs. Lawrence Yeries, Hills; Mrs. Robert Bush, Vinton and Mrs. Joe McDowell, Cedar Rapids; 4 brothers, Louis, Oxford; Milo, Norway and Joe and George, both of Cedar Rapids.
