Stanwood - Funeral services for William Ropa, 78, will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Chapman Funeral Home, Clarence, with burial in the Stanwood cemetery.

Mr. Ropa died Tuesday at the Iowa City Veterans Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Carrie, a son, Donald, Stanwood; 4 grandchildren, 2 brothers, Erwin and Ray, Stanwood and a sister, Mrs. Esthyr Babcock, Grove, Okla.

Funeral services for William Ropa, Jr., 78, were held at Chapman Funeral home Oct. 20 with the Rev. James Nelson in charge. Mrs. John Swift accompanied by Mrs. Wayne Brown, sang. Pallbearers were Fred Luedeman, Paul Portewig, Harlan Voelker, Dale Wood, Gerald Jones and Henry Orsmby. Burial was in the Stanwood cemetery.

Mr. Ropa died at Veterans hospital, Iowa City, Oct. 17.

The son of William and Minnie Oeting Ropa, he was born at Stanwood July 8, 1894, and spent his entire life in Stanwood. Before his retirement, he was a section foreman for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad.

A veteran of World War I, he was a member of Hegarty-Busching post of the American Legion.

He was married to Carrie Grell at Stanwood June 6, 1917.

Mr. Ropa is survived by his wife, a son, Don; 4 grandchildren, 2 brothers, Erwin and Ray, Stanwood, and a sister, Esthyr Babcock, Grove, Okla.
