Mechanicsville - Funeral services for Earl Aaron Miller, 74, a longtime resident of this community, were held Tuesday, July 18 in the United Methodist church at 1 p.m. Full military rites were conducted by Busch-Dennis American Legion Post 309. Bill Broulik and Craig McDowell were the buglers; David Ferguson and James Cook, flag folders.

Everett Ferguson, Ralph Yule, John Sauer, Weldon Woods, Robert Davis and Carl Warren were the pallbearers, with interment in Rose Hill Cemetery. Horner Funeral service was in charge.

Mr. Miller died July 15 in the Cedar Manor Nursing Home, Tipton. He had been in failing health for some time.

Earl Aaron Miller was born June 26, 1898, the son of Frank L. and Minnie M. Miller in Jones county. He attended the Jones county school and then moved to Mechanicsville where he resided the rest of his life.

He was a former mayor of the town, an honorary member of the Fire Company and a life member of the American Legion. He served with the Army Air Force in World War II. Mr. Miller farmed until moving to Mechanicsville in 1920. He worked for some time at Iowa Manufacturing in Cedar Rapids and was a former employee of the Cedar county road maintenance department. He was twice a candidate for the Cedar County Board of Supervisors.

Survivors include his step-mother, Mrs. Iva Miller, with whom he made his home, 2 sisters, Mrs. Lee Schurke, Davenport and Mrs. Herbert Rittmer, Cedar Rapids, and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and a sister.
