On Sunday, March 5, Mrs. Elizabeth Dettmann of Clarence died at Greensburg, Kansas, where she had gone to attend the funeral of a sister-in-law after an illness of about two weeks. Death was due to some kind of kidney trouble.

The remains, which were accompanied by William and Miss Lizzie, arrived home on Tuesday noon.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 8, at St. John's church, Rev. Hansen officiating.

Maria Elizabeth Peters was born on April 16, 1860 at Roduchelsdorf, Mecklenburg Schwerin, Germany, and joined the Christian church on Palm Sunday, 1874.

On September 29, 1882, she was united in marriage to Heinrich Dettmann. To this union were given eight children, five boys and three girls, who all survive their mother and all were present at the funeral.

In 1882 she came to Cedar county, Iowa, with her husband, and for the last nineteen years resided in Clarence.

In October, 1899, she was left a widow and was forced to earn a living for herself and her children.

She was a faithful mother and true member of her church.

Besides the children, she leaves her parents, and one brother and one sister in Germany and one brother in Chicago to mourn her death.

She was 50 years and 10 months old when she died.

The remains were laid to rest in the Clarence cemetery. -- Clarence Sun
