Funeral services for Lester W. Chapman, 63, Rochester area farmer and painter, were held at United Methodist church, Rochester, May 25 with the Rev. Jacob Van Mantgem officiating. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Pallbearers were Harold Wehde, H. B. Conley, Robert Witmer, Maurice Martin, Robert Schroeder and Calvin Moore. George Thordsen was vocalist and Mrs. Donald Stiff organist. Mrs. Edward Voss and Ray Isabel were in charge of flowers.

Masonic services were held at the graveside. The Dye Funeral home was in charge of the services.

Mr. Chapman died at his home near Rochester May 23.

The son of Frank S. and Mayme Pearl Eisaman Chapman, he was born in Rochester township June 27, 1909 and attended the rural Cedar county schools.

He was married to Ester Hakanson at the bride's home at Manchester June 27, 1933.

A lifetime resident of the Rochester area, he was a farmer and painter. He was a Past Master of Golden Rule Masonic Lodge at Rochester, a member of the Rochester Methodist church where he was active in youth groups. He served as superintendent of the Sunday school at South Bethel church for many years.

He was a township chairman for the Farm Bureau, a member of the Extension Service council, an ASCS committeeman and a board chairman of the Rochester Methodist church. He drove a school bus for the West Branch Community school for 11 years.

He is survived by his wife, a son, Cecil, Eldridge; a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Carolyn) Mann, St. Louis, Mo.; 2 granddaughters, Lynette and Elizabeth Chapman and a sister, Mrs. Clare (Evelyn) Nebergall, Tipton. He was preceded in death by a sister, Verda and a brother, Oscar.
