John Willer was born at Pomeroy, Ohio, on the 29th day of January, 1845. He was baptised in infancy and later confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran church, to which faith he remained a life-long member. He was married in March, 1867, and came to live in the state of Iowa that same year. There were eight children born to this union, six of whom survive. They are Charles, Rufus, Frank, Art and Bertha, of Moville, Iowa, and Edwin, of Tipton. There are also 13 grandchildren living.

He was taken seriously ill a few weeks ago and death came to his relief on Tuesday evening, November, 18, 1924, thus having lived to the ripe old age of 79 years, 9 months and 20 days. His wife preceded him in death in 1911.

Brief funeral services were held in Moville, Iowa, and also at the home of his son Edwin Willer, on Friday the 21st, in charge of Rev. Geo F. Weissling, pastor of the Lutheran church, and burial was in the Masonic cemetery.
