Mechanicsville - Requim High Mass was sung August 31 at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church for Mrs. Julia Kerwin, 93, Mechanicsville's oldest resident. Mrs. Kerwin died in her home August 28, following an illness of several months.

Julia Broderick Kerwin was born on a farm southeast of Mechanicsville on January 1, 1871 the daughter of John and Mary Delaney Broderick, both of Ireland.

She moved with her family to Clarence as a child and attended the Clarence schools, and then worked as a dress maker and designer for several years.

On Sept. 23, 1908 she was married to John Kerwin, Mechanicsville, in Clarence. They farmed in the Mechanicsville territory many years, before moving to town. The Kerwin's observed their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1958 just two months before his death.

Mrs. Kerwin was a long time member of St. Mary's Church and Guild, and attended daily Mass regularly until the last few weeks when she was confined to her home.

She was also a member of the Social Club, Kosy Korner Klub and the Royal Neighbors of America.

Rev. P. J. Casey officiated at the service with Horner Funeral home in charge.

Rev. T. V. Lawler, Davenport, attended the service.

Lester Nicoll, Arthur Vanderbilt, Lowell Dauber, Leonard Cooney, Charles Mulherin and John Sauer were pallbearers.

Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
