24 February 1911 - The Lowden News

Rosana Shoestall was born in Westmoreland Co., Penn., September 26th, 1830 and died in Fort Madison, Iowa, February 15th, 1911, at the age of 80 years, 4 months and 11 days.

She was reared in Penn., and married to Edward Shoestall in 1854 and came to Iowa soon afterward.

To this union were born six children: Albert, John of Tulsa, Okla.; Joseph of Elwood, Neb., Mary, the wife of Henry Sutphen of Fort Madison; Katherine, the wife of Charles Curtis of Osceola, Neb.; and Edward of Tipton, Iowa, all living.

Besides she leaves nineteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

On their arrival in Iowa they took up their residence south of Tipton in Cedar county. Later they moved to a farm in Fairfield township where the husband died in the year of 1870.

Then she took her family to Clarence where the family was reared.

After the marriage of all her children she made her home among them, spending the largest share of her forty-one years of widowhood with her daughter, Mary Sutphen, remaining with her permanent for the last fourteen years. In March, 1903, she suffered a stroke of paralysis which left her almost an invalid. She was a member of the Christian church of Fort Madison. She was the friend of everyone and everyone was her friend. She dearly loved to have her friends about her, and rejoiced at their happiness and prosperity. Her faithful kindness touched all the hearts in the circle of her influence as spring sunshine falls on flowers. Her deeds of kindness blessed many a home and little delicate attentions cheered many a lonely and suffering heart.

We bid her farewell until the resurrection morning. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. J. C. Christie, pastor of the Presbyterian church, at the residence of her son, Edward of Tipton and she was buried at Fairview, Saturday, Feb. 18, 1911.
