16 July 1909 - The Lowden News

Dietrich Sieling died here last Friday at the age of eight-three years and seven days of infirmities of old age.

Deceased was born at Estorf, Province Hanover, Germany, on July 2nd, 1826. He was married in 1850, and came to America in 1869. He and wife resided on a farm until about twenty-six years ago they moved to Lowden. Mrs. Sieling died a number of years ago, and after that the old gentleman resided still at the same home place, but with his grandson, Ernst Sieling, and family. Ernst Sieling died about three years ago, but the old grandfather remained with the family; and when Mrs. Ernst Sieling was married to Reinhold Breuer, Dietrich Sieling still remained in the same old home place with Mr. and Mrs. Breuer until his demise. One granddaughter and six great grandchildren survive to mourn his departure.

We became acquainted with Grandfather Sieling about thirty years ago, when he was still on the farm, and we have known him ever since and always found him to be an honest and upright citizen. Of late he became very feeble of course and death no doubt came to him as a welcome visitor.

Funeral was held Sunday afternoon with services in the Lutheran church. Rev. Brammer conducted the services. The pall bearers were Jacob Deininger, Chas. Andersen, Albert Schaefer, John Sander, Fred Froesch and H. Ruprecht Jr. And they laid Mr. Sieling to rest in the Lutheran cemetery. May he rest in peace.
