13 September 1945 - The Tipton Advertiser

Funeral service was held at 2:00 P.M. last Saturday in the McCormick funeral home for Mrs. Howard Sissel, 74, who passed away in the hospital at Davenport.

Mary E. Argo, daughter of John W. and Ida Jane Argo, was born May 6, 1871, near Tipton in Cedar county and passed away at Mercy hospital in Davenport, Wednesday afternoon Sept. 5th, 1945. She had been ill several months. She lived her life in Cedar county, residing on a farm near Tipton until 1918 when she moved to Tipton and remained here until her death. When a girl she united with the Methodist church at York Prairie and remained true to this faith.

She was married to Howard T. Sissel on Aug. 10, 1890. To this union were born eight children--five boys and 3 girls. One boy, Charles M. Sissel died July 24, 1939. Those remaining to mourn her departure are four boys--William H. Sissel of Tipton, Martin J. Sissel of Buckner, Mo., Harry W. Sissel of Tipton, and Raymond H. Sissel of Buffalo, Iowa; three daughters, Ida Mae French of Ruthven, Iowa; Esther O. Maurer of Tipton and Ruth E. Martin, of Tipton. Mrs. Sissel is also mourned by 21 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Two brothers, Otis Argo of Cedar Rapids, and Verne Argo of Tipton; as well as three sisters, Mrs. Anna Cessna of Riverside, Calif.; Mrs. Edith Blair and Oral Tracht, Fairfield, Iowa; along with many other relatives and friends, mourn her departure in death.

Rev. Roscoe B. Sires, pastor of the Methodist church, Tipton, conducted the funeral service. Music was furnished by Mrs. Carson Cobb and Mrs. J. E. Chamberlain, with Miss Laura Geller accompanying.
