Lawrence E., second son of Charles B. and Cornelia (Smith) Stout, was born in Cass township, Cedar county, Iowa, June 21, 1879, and passed away at the Soldiers Home in Washington, D.C. on Nov. 18, 1945, aged 66 years, 4 months, 28 days.

He grew to young manhood in the Buchanan vicinity and enlisted in the service of his country at an early age, serving 4 years, after which he was honorably discharged. Later he re-enlisted and was sent to the Phillippines on guard duty, where he contracted the Cuban fever, from which he never fully recovered and since had been in a soldiers hospital most of the time.

His parents, and two brothers preceded him in death. Surviving are one brother, Elvin, of Nevis, Minn., two sisters, Mrs. Eva Anderson of Nevis, and Mrs. Nola Saling, of Los Angeles, California; also one niece Mrs. Viola Nancarrow, two grand-nieces and one grand-nephew, all of Nevis, Minnesota.

Funeral services were held from the Buchanan church on Saturday, November 24th, at 10:00 A.M., the Rev. Roscoe B. Sires of Tipton officiating, and the American Legion had charge of the military service at the graveside in Woodbridge cemetery. Music at the final rites was by Mrs. E. Chamberlain and Mr. Naber, with Mrs. Earl Escher accompanist.
