18 September 1908 - The Lowden News

Emma Henrietta Marie Resewehr (nee Gehrls) was born in the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburgh-Schwerin, Germany, February 22nd, 1880. On July 4th, 1893, she with her parents and sister, came to this country, settling near Clarence.

On September 28th, 1900, she was married to John H. Resewehr and this happy union was blessed with two children, Rosa and Clarence. For several years this family, together with Mr. and Mrs. John H. Gehrls, parents of the deceased, have resided two and one-half miles south of Stanwood. About eight months ago her mother preceded her into another world.

A few months ago the deceased was stricken with severe headaches which developed into congestion of the brain and caused her demise on Thursday, September 10th, at 11 a.m.; although all that medical skill and loving and tender care could do, was done. The funeral services were held at St. Pauls German Lutheran church in this city Sunday morning and were conducted by the Rev. Wm. Nagler. Rev. Nagler preached a beautiful and touching sermon from Psalms, 23, 1-4, and paid a glowing tribute to the life of the departed, who lived as she died, in the faith of her Redeemer. Her body was laid to rest in the German cemetery near Clarence. The manifestations of loving remembrances and sympathy were shown by the large concourse of relatives, friends and neighbors that completely filled the church, and followed the remains to its last resting place. She leaves to mourn their loss a loving husband, two children, Rosa aged seven and Clarence aged five, her father John H. Gehrls and one sister Mrs. Chas. Long, who have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in their hour of deep sorrow. -- Stanwood Herald.
