28 May 1915 - The Lowden News

Again, on Tuesday evening came another death report and this time the angel of death had called "Grandma" Lietz.

Mrs. Albertine Maria Lietz, nee Milbratz, was born on the 22nd day of October in Kreitz, Pomerania Province, Germany, and died at her home here in Lowden, Tuesday evening, May 25th, at the advanced age of 76 years, 5 months and 4 days.

In 1860 she was united in marriage to William Lietz. Six children were born to this union, two of them dying while young. The surviving children are Henry Lietz and Mrs. Henry Gade, of this place; Mrs. August Siebel of Dixon, and Mrs. Louis Stolte of Tipton.

In 1866 she came with her family to the United States and settled in Illinois, where they lived for one year and then came to Cedar county and lived at Lowden until 1872, when they moved onto the farm northeast of town where they resided until 1904 when they retired and moved back to town.

Mrs. Lietz had been a sufferer for some time and the news of her death was not unexpected. She was a good companion to her husband, a kind and loving mother and a good neighbor. Mrs. Lietz like Mrs. Deke was a member of the German Lutheran church, where the funeral services will take place this afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. J. H. Brammer officiating.

Those left to mourn her death besides her children are her aged husband, Wm. Lietz, 30 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

The remains will be laid to rest in the Lowden cemetery. Those acting as pallbearers are: Henry Gauey, Rudolph Siebel, L. D. Rix, William Endorf, Rudolph Brauer and Aug. Marosek.
