Kathryn Launtz Funeral Rites Held in Tipton Sunday P.M.

The many friends of Kathryn Launtz were shocked at the news of her death last week, following a heart attack. She had been a good friend and faithful servant and her Tipton friends will keenly feel her loss in the community.

Kathryn Irene Bowers was born in Cherokee county, Iowa, July 2, 1895, the sixth child of Emma Hoon and Arthur Wesley Bowers and passed away at St. Luke's hospital Feb. 28 after two weeks' illness of a heart attack, at the age of 56 years, 4 months and 5 days.

She grew to womanhood in Cherokee county and finished her schooling by graduating from the Cherokee high school. She took teacher training at Cedar Falls and taught one year in South Dakota. She then took a business course at Lincoln, Neb., and worked in Dr. Andrews' offices several years and was later employed at the Sargeant Bluffs bank as assistant cashier.

On Dec. 4, 1918, she was married to Arthur Launtz of Sioux City, Iowa. They lived there several years, then moved to Tipton to care for his mother. In 1934 she began her work with Dr. O'Neal as office assistant, which she kept except for his five years in service during which time she operated the Washta, Iowa, Journal, and did hospital work at Norfolk, Neb. after selling the paper. She then returned to Tipton to resume her duties with Dr. O'Neal in 1949.

She will be long remembered by her family and many friends for her wonderful personality and charitable work. She had a smile for everyone and was especially loved by children and was a faithful servant until sickness took her over.

She was preceded in death by her husband, April, 1947, her parents, one sister and one brother. She is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Jessie Bailey of Broken Arrow, Okla., Mrs. Jeanette Loveless of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Mrs. Winnie Harkrader of Norfolk, Neb.; also four brothers, Harvey of Cherokee, Ia., Clifford of Churdan, Ia., Paul of Norfolk, Nebr., and Keith of Culver City, Cal.; also 18 nieces and 6 nephews, and several grand-nephews and nieces.

Funeral services were conducted March 2, 1952, at the Sheets funeral home with Rev. H. N. Poston officiating, and interment in Tipton Masonic cemetery.
