1 January 1909 The Lowden News

On Christmas morning, 1908, there passed away at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Resewehr, in Clarence, Phillip Lange, aged 83 years, 6 months and 27 days. Mr. Lange had been ailing for some time and his death was therefore not unexpected.

Phillip Lange was born in Hanshagen, Germany, May 29, 1825. In 1850 he came to America, remaining in New York about a year. He came west then, first stopping in Illinois where he married Miss Clara Geisuler. Soon after the marriage they came to Cedar county, first residing near Lowden and later moving to Fairfield township.

He is survived by a son and a daughter, Theodore Lange of Fairfield township and Mrs. Amelia Resewehr of Clarence and ten grandchildren. Preceding him in death of his immediate family were his wife, who died in the fall of 1891, his son Wm, who died in 1899, and his daughter, Mrs. G. L. Peters who died in February,1904.

The funeral was held on Sunday morning at the German Eangelical church, of which he was a charter member, being conducted by Rev. C. Schulmeistrat. Interment followed at the Clarence cemetery.

Thus is marked the passing of another pioneer whose long life was well spent and who helped to make Cedar county and Iowa what it is.
