Henry Kruckenberg died at his old home place, 6 1/2 miles northwest of Lowden, Wednesday, October 21st, at 12:30 p.m. at the age of 69 years 6 months and 8 days. Having been affected with paralysis for about five years, he kept getting gradually worse, and of late he had been quite helpless, losing the use of his limbs and also his speech. A few days before his demise other complications set in and a day before his death the disease took hold more violently than before, and when death came, he must have appeared as a welcome visitor.

Mr. Kruckenberg was born on April 13th, 1839, at Stadorf, near Ebstorf, Prov. Hanover, Germany. He came to America when but 18 years old, and for the first eight years resided near Addison, Ill., after that he was in Missouri for a year, and was married in Holt Co., Missouri, on April 30th, 1865, to Miss Marie Kroeger, whom he had already known in the old country.

In 1866 they came to Iowa and rented for the first year or two in this neighborhood, after which he bought the farm on which he resided until his death. One brother, two sons, five daughters, twenty grandchildren and a great many other near relatives and friends survive to mourn his demise. His wife died in 1901, and was buried here on the Lutheran cemetery.

Mr. Kruckenberg's old home place has also become the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Kruckenberg, who have taken care of the deceased during his long ailment. For several months however, Miss Lena Kruckenberg has stayed home to help take care of her father.

Mr. Kruckenberg during his active years in life has been a hard working man and careful manager of his business affairs. He has been a member of the Lutheran church here ever since the church was here. He was a good, whole souled, honest man.

Funeral will be held tomorrow, (Saturday) at 10 o'clock a.m. from the house with services in the Lutheran church here to be conducted by Rev. J. H. Brammer, and they will lay Mr. Kruckenberg to rest on the Lutheran cemetery.
