Richard Hill was born Jan. 8, 1832, in Pocahontas Co., West Virginia. He spent his youth there with his father and mother, Isaac and Jane Hill, coming to Ia. in 1847 with his mother, then widowed, and settling in Cedar Co. Sept. 9, 1852, he was married to Ally A. Fulwider, who died May 17, 1880. By this union there were eight children: Harriet, Jane, James, Ellen, Iowa, Tipton, Isaac, Martha, Emily, and Leonard, all of whom but Iowa survive him. He moved to Hamilton Co. in 1854, returning to Cedar Co. in 1860. He was married to Mary E. Werling, May 20, 1884. To this union were born three children, Flody, Edith and Verda, all of whom survive him. He is also survived by three brothers and one sister, thirty grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Two years ago Mr. Hill was stricken with paralysis and has been an invalid since. He died April 9, 1908, at the age of 76 years, 3 months and 1 day. In 1858 he joined the Masonic lodge and since then has been a member in good standing. As a citizen he was greatly respected by all and repeatedly held public positions of honor and trust, serving two or three terms as county supervisor from his district. He was a good father, a devoted husband, an obliging neighbor, and leaves hosts of friends to mourn his death. The funeral was from his late home, with interment in the Hanna cemetery.

All of the children but three, Leonard V. Hill of Lawton, Okla., Isaac Hill of Jamesport, Miss., and Tipton Hill of Chicago, are residents of Cedar Co. and all were present at the funeral. Rev. L. A. Bradford conducted the services at the home, and Cedar Lodge No. 82 had charge of the burial rites. - Tipton Conservative.
