Estella Zimmerman Dies in Iowa City

Estella Zimmerman, 95, a native of Mechanicsville, died at her home in Iowa City Aug. 29 following a long illness.

Funeral services were Sept. 1 at the Beckman-Butherus funeral home in Iowa City with burial in the Oak Hill cemetery in Cedar Rapids.

Miss Zimmerman was the owner and operator of the Estella Zimmerman Apparel Shop in Iowa City.

She was born Oct. 13, 1871, near Mechanicsville, the daughter of Henry and Emma Zimmerman. She attended Mechanicsville rural schools and Cornell College at Mount Vernon.

She taught school in the Mechanicsville area for several years and moved to Iowa City in 1908.

Miss Zimmerman was a member of First Methodist church of Iowa City, the Jessamine Chapter 135 of the Eastern Star and the Iowa City White Shrine of Jerusalem.

Survivors are a sister, Dora V. Jeffrey, Iowa City; a brother, Harley Zimmerman, Santa Susana, Calif., and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters and 2 brothers.
