Clara Freese was born near Wheatland, Iowa, on November 17, 1900, daughter of Fred and Sophie Freese. She passed away at her home in Clarence after a lingering illness of 4 months at the age of 49 years, 11 months and 8 days.

She attended rural schools in the Lowden community during her girlhood days.

She was united in marriage to Alfred Pruess on January 26, 1921 at Rock Island, Ill. To this union were born three daughters and one son. They farmed southeast of Olin for 27 years, then retiring in Clarence in 1948, where she resided until her passing.

She was a member of the St. John's Evangelical and Reformed church of Clarence and the Ladies Guild of this church, also a member of the Unity Club in the Olin community.

In spite of her heavy burden she never complained and had a never ending determination to get well. She was a good homemaker, a friend to everybody and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband Alfred, three daughters, Mrs. Juanita Burda, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Dorothy Dahn, Tipton, Mrs. Betty Lou Chukas, Cedar Rapids and one son Joey Al at home. Also she is survived by three brothers, Henry and Julius of Lowden, Emil of Cedar Rapids, two sisters, Mrs. William Fehling and Mrs. William Kreinbring of Lowden, 2 half brothers, Alfred and Herb of Clarence, 2 half sisters, Mrs. Gerald Kemmann of Lowden and Miss Elsie Freese of Cedar Rapids, also two grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Charles and a half sister Mrs. Henry Sander.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, October 28, 1950, at St. John's Evangelical and Reformed church with Reverend F. J. Mittler officiating. The music was furnished by the church choir. In charge of the many beautiful floral pieces were Mrs. Harold Fehling, Mrs. Allan Hicks, Mrs. Marvin Muesing and Mrs. Merlyn Wenndt. Pallbearers were: Julius Bergmann, George Slater, John Hasenbank, Louis Lorenzen, Walter Hartwig and Hans Rohwedder. Interment was made in St. John's Cemetery.
