8 October 1942 - The Clarence Sun

Ida Caroline Wilhelmine Elise Doris Ibsen was born September 21, 1879, near Elmhurst, Ill. Her parents were Henry Licht and Henrietta (nee Dammeier). On November 2, 1879, she was received into the Christian church by the sacrament of holy baptism.

In early childhood she came with her parents to Iowa, settling on a farm northeast of Lowden. When of school age she attended Christian day school of the Lutheran church at Lowden and was confirmed in that church on March 26, 1893. After confirmation she did housework for awhile, then took to dressmaking.

On January 29, 1905, she was united in marriage to John Ibsen. The home was established on a farm north of Clarence where she and her husband resided for seventeen years. To this union three children were born. The last twenty years were spent on the present farm home northeast of Clarence.

About thirty-one years ago she was compelled to submit to a series of throat operations at the famous Mayo Bros. clinic at Rochester, Minn. Although her general health was improved, her heart remained in a weakened and impaired condition. During the many years which followed she bore her affliction with Christian patience and fortitude. Last January 7 she submitted once more to an operation at Iowa City, but the relief she obtained was only temporary. The end came very suddenly Monday morning, September 28, 1942, at about 7:30 o'clock, aged 63 years and seven days.

She leaves to mourn her early departure her husband, John Ibsen; one daughter, Gertrude, now Mrs. Walter Hartwig; two sons, Chester and George, all of Clarence; three brothers, Henry Licht of Delmar, Walter Licht of Clarence and Edward Licht of Elmhurst, Ill.; two sisters, Mrs. Reinhold Winter and Mrs. George Meseke, both of Forest Park, Ill.; seven brothers-in-law, four sisters-in-law, two grand-children, and many other relatives and friends.

The funeral was held last Thursday afternoon at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran church at Stanwood, the services being conducted by Reverend E. F. Hempel. These ladies were in charge of the flowers: Ida Hasenbank, Mrs. Fred Feddersen, Gladys Rogers, Anita Decker. The pallbearers were Howard Dewell, John Feddersen, Art Larick, Frank Decker, Robert Decker, Al Rogers. Interment was in the Evangelical cemetery, east of Clarence.
