Henry C. Goldsmith, son of the late Joachim Goldsmith and his wife, Elsie, nee Gehrls, was born in Cedar county, Iowa, on January 4, 1879, and was baptized in the same year by the Reverend J. H. Brammer. He was a member of the first class to be confirmed in St. John's church in Clarence, Iowa. This was on March 26, 1893, by the Reverend J. Hermann.
Mr. Goldsmith lived all his life in Cedar county and in the Clarence vicinity. For the past 18 years he has been making his home with his brother, Gustav, west of Clarence. He has endured great suffering for the past several years, and since September hasn't been able to get out of doors. He has been bedfast for seven weeks.
Death came to relieve him of his suffering on Sunday, November 29th. At the time of his death he had attained the age of 63 years, 10 months and 25 days.
He leaves to mourn his departure the following brothers and sisters: John of Aberdeen, South Dakota; William of Pasadena, Calif.; Gustav of Clarence, Alvina, Mrs. Henry Richmann of Clarence; Anna, Mrs. Emerson Crist of Oxford Junction; Alma, Mrs. Paul Rix of Lowden; Erna, Mrs. Henry Boettcor, of Clarence; and Joe of Elgin, Ills. Also an uncle, and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Heinrich Goldsmith of Clarence, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held from the G. H. Goldsmith residence and St. John's Evangelical and Reformed church Wednesday, December 2nd, Reverend F. J. Mittler officiating. Interment was in the Clarence cemetery.
Mrs. Ward Bright and Mrs. Herbert Freese were in charge of flowers.
