George Simpson Findlay, son of James and Martha Hamilton Findlay, was born March 16, 1867, on a farm northeast of Clarence, where he grew to manhood and attended the country school known as Claney Corners.

On the 8th day April, 1891, he was united in marriage to Ruth Ellen Rickard, to which union were born eight children: Marion, Genevieve, Agnes, James, Clarence, Helen, Leland and Howard. They have been life-long residents of Cedar county, where they are widely and favorably known, having throughout life displayed those sterling straits of Christian character, which awaken confidence and respect in neighbors and friends. They were faithful members of the Stanwood Methodist church, and regular attendants, until ill health prevented. Mr. Findlay became a member of Patmos lodge A.F.& A.M in Mechanicsville, later becoming a charter member of Fremont lodge No. 616, September 9, 1915, and also a charter member of Idelle Chapter O.E.S.

Mr. Findlay was active in civic affairs in his home town, serving as assessor, town clerk and councilman.

About a year ago Mr. and Mrs. Findlay celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, the climax of many happy successful years together, and were enthusiastically congratulated by the whole community.

During the past year Mr. Findlay has been in poor health, and passed away at his home in Stanwood Friday, October 2, 1932, at the age of 75 years and 8 months.
