Harry S. Cashman, aged 71, a retired farmer and business man of Clarence, died at 5:20 a.m. Friday, Aug. 27, at St. Luke's hospital in Cedar Rapids after an illness of six weeks, and for which he submitted to an operation Tuesday, and his condition was found to be serious.
He was born in Bendersville, Pa., July 26, 1866, son of Mr. and Mrs. Luther Cashman, and grew to manhood there. On Oct. 9, 1888, he was married to Bertha K. Taylor at Bendersville, where they established their first home. Four children were born to them--Helen R., Raymond Earl, Robert C. and Myrl. The family came to Clarence in 1907 and the following spring moved to a farm near here, where they lived until 1923, when they retired and moved to Clarence and bought a home.
The following eleven years he was employed as manager of the Clarence Shipping Association in the buying and marketing of stock. For the past three years he had worked for the National Hybrid Corn Co. of Onslow, Ia., having finished up the season's work with this company before submitting to an operation.
Mr. Cashman was the youngest of four children, three brothers and one sister, all having preceded him in death, he being the last member of this family. He was an ideal husband, a loving father and kind neighbor and friends, as the many floral tributes would testify.
He became a member of the Bendersville M. E. church in 1900, having his membership with that of Mrs. Cashman transferred to the Clarence M. E. church Feb. 21, 1909. He was also a member of the Montana lodge No. 653, I.O.O.F. of Bendersville.
Surviving are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Fred Long of Cedar Rapids and one son, Myrl of Clarence; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. A. B. Chamberlin, with interment at Clarence.
Those from a considerable distance who came for the funeral were: Mrs. O. P. House, Bendersville, Pa., Mrs. Mollie Gable, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Gable, Dr. Graham Smith, Minneapolis.
