3 June 1937 - The Clarence Sun
Mrs. Eva Decker, the daughter of William and Annie Emerson, was born at Bath, N. Y., March 17, 1863, and entered into eternal rest at her home in Clarence, Iowa, May 29, 1937, consequently having attained the age of 74 years, 2 months and 12 days.
Her own father lost his life in the civil war and her mother later was united in marriage with Rev. D. P. Rathbun and this family came to Iowa in 1880.
On Feb. 26, 1884, she was united in marriage with Charles E. Decker at Washington, Iowa, and a home established at Beemer, Nebraska. There they remained until 1904 when they returned to Iowa and resided at LeClair for three years, after which they moved to Clarence, which has been her home ever since.
Their family consists of two daughters, Mrs. Mabel Woods and Miss Bessie, both of Clarence. This family was broken into by the death of the father which occurred Feb. 7, 1925.
Mrs. Decker became a Christian early in life and was a most faithful member of the Clarence Presbyterian church, always giving to its interests the utmost service her feeble health permitted, for Mrs. Decker was a great sufferer from asthma for 60 years. Yet she never complained and was ever deeply appreciative of every effort made in her behalf. She will always be remembered as a kind and sympathetic neighbor, a helpful friend and a tender and loving wife and mother.
Gone is the face we love so dear,
Silent is the voice we loved to hear.
Too far away for sight and speech,
But not too far for thought to reach.
Sweet to remember her who once was here,
And who though absent is just as dear.Funeral service were held at the home Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. William M. Evans of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Helen Seaton and Mrs. Verva Bixler sang favorite hymns. The many beautiful floral tributes testifed to the high regard in which the deceased was held by her many friends.
Interment was made at the Clarence cemetery.
