Failing in health for a number of years and her eyesight nearly gone, Mrs Sophie Muhs, widow of the late Richard Muhs, was relieved from her suffering when death claimed her late Saturday night. She had been critically ill with heart trouble for the past four weeks and had been faithfully cared for in her home by her children.

A native of Germany, Mrs Muhs came to America when a young girl and has been a resident of Cedar county for 61 years. She has resided in Lowden since 1920.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs Laura Krueger of Lowden and Mrs Meta Parr of Camanche; two sons, Julius and Hugo of Lowden; one brother, Henry Meier of Clarence; also two sisters-in-law, Mrs Dick Meier of Clarence and Mrs Anna Bautz of Stockton, Calif., and two brothers-in-law, Ernst Meier of Lowden and Gerhard Muhs of Spangle, Wash., and eight grandchildren. A sister, Mrs Ernst Meier, died last December.

Mrs. Sophie Muhs, 77, died at her home in Lowden late Saturday evening, following a lingering illness. Her maiden name was Meier and she was born in Germany in 1859 and in 1883 came to Lowden. She married Richard Muhs in 1887, the couple farming west of Lowden. Her husband preceded her in death. She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Laura Krueger of Lowden and Mrs. Meta Paar of Clinton; two sons, Julius and Hugo both of Lowden; one brother Henry Meier of Clarence and eight grandchildren. The funeral was held on Tuesday at Zion church, with burial in the Lowden cemetery. She was a sister of Dick Meyer of Clarence, who died Nov. 13th, and Mrs. Ernest Meier of Lowden who died on Dec. 22d.
