Funeral services for Mrs Daniel Barnes, age 24, who died at an Iowa City Hospital last Friday morning, were held at the William Barnes home in Tipton Sunday with the Rev. L. H. Gunnemann of the Reformed Church officiating. Interment was in the Valley Cemetery, northeast of Clarence, Iowa.
Mrs Barnes, formerly Luma Rhoads, was born in Cedar County, Iowa April 16, 1912. Her death came following a short illness. She is survived by her husband, a four year old daughter, Dorothy; Her parents Mr and Mrs Albert Rhoads of Oxford Junction.
LUMA RHOADS BARNES , Wife of Daniel Barnes, was born in Dayton township, Cedar County, on April 16, 1912. She is the oldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Albert Rhoads of Oxford Junction, Iowa. She attended the schools in the vicinity of her home and completed her education at the Clarence High School. When yet a young girl she became, by the grace of God, a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. She was yet a member at the time of her death.
On Sept. 21 st, 1931, she was joined in marriage to Daniel Barnes of Tipton. To this union was born one daughter, Dorothy Louise, aged four years. Since her marriage she has lived in Tipton. Relatives and friends speak highly of her as a mother, sister, and neighbor. She never tired of doing things for others, and she went out of her way to help. Her kind and willing spirit endeared her to all whom she knew.
During the past week she suddenly became seriously ill and was removed to the University Hospital at Iowa City. She failed to rally, however, after an operation and passed quietly from this life late Friday morning, Sept. 4 th, 1936, having reached the age of 24 years, 4 months and 18 days.
She was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters. She is survived by her husand, Daniel Barnes; her daughter Dorothy Louise; her parents Mr and Mrs Albert Rhoads ; her brothers and sisters: Harry, Marian, Katharine, Robert, Bessie, Thomas, Franklin and Harold Rhoads; Mr and Mrs William Barnes and family and many other relatives.
