Harold Daniel Barnhart, 87, West Branch

Harold Daniel Barnhart, 87, died Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at Crestview Nursing and Rehabil-itation Center in West Branch, Iowa.

Harold was a lifelong resident of the Springdale/West Branch Community, farming and watching his family grow.

Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Meredith Barnhart, his parents, and one brother, Ivan.

He is survived by his daughter, Jerie (Gary) Schwartz of Coralville; two sons, Dan (Nancy) Barnhart of Iowa City and Tom Barnhart of West Branch; six grandchildren, Melody Mara (daughter Breanna), Nikki Barnhart, Jana Schwartz (Rob Umbaugh), Lara Donohoe (Ed Pospisil), Justin Schwartz (Jamie), and Jodi Turner (Jeff); four great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Jim (Rhoda) Barnhart and Don (Ardis) Barnhart of West Branch.

Harold had a love for children and in his last years the addition of great-grandchildren Ben Donohoe, Bailey Donohoe, and Cooper Umbaugh brought him tremendous joy and a wealth of smiles.

A graveside service will be held July 24, 2009, at Tipton Masonic Cemetery at 4 p.m. Following the brief service a gathering for remembrances will be held at the Springdale Methodist Church from 5-7 p.m. Please join the family in sharing memories of the life of a gentle, nurturing and loving man.

Arrangements are being handled by the Fry Funeral Home in Tipton, Iowa. Donations in Harold’s memory may be made to the Crestview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in West Branch, a place he called home and his second family.
