James Oran Maley was born April 5, 1884 at Stanwood, Cedar, Iowa to Mary Jane Acheson (1846-1934) and Augustus Washington Maley (born 1832 West Virginia, died 1904 Cedar, Iowa).

Found in the 1895 - 1900 censuses living at Freemont, Cedar, Iowa:
1895: James Maley age 10.

1900: Washington A Maler 68, Mary J Maler 53, Mattie L Maler 27, Tresa A Maler 21, Nina L Maler 18, James O Maler 16, Helina H Maler 14.

James married Irene Terry (born October 7, 1884 Iowa, died September 6, 1909 Iowa City, Johnson, Iowa) on February 6, 1907 at Stanwood, Cedar, Iowa.

The couple had 2 children:
Orville James (born December 30, 1907 Cedar, Iowa, died March 1976 Springfield, Greene, Missouri) and

Doris Irene (born January 19, 1909 Stanwood, Cedar, Iowa, died March 16, 1986 Los Angeles, California).

Family found in the 1910 census living at Freemont, Cedar, Iowa: Mary J Maley 63, James Maley 26, Orval James Maley 2. Foreman at a tile factory in 1910 and farmer.

James next married Mary Josephine Carothers (born August 25, 1887 Kimbolton, Guernsey, Ohio, died April 15, 1970 Greeley, Weld, Colorado) on June 20, 1912 at Garner, Hancock, Iowa.

The couple had 5 children:
Harold Ingram (born May 5, 1913 Garner, Hancock, Iowa, died June 23, 1991 Pueblo, Colorado);

Wilmer Acheson (born February 28, 1915 Goodwater, Saskatchewan, Canada, died November 1, 1973 Los Angeles, California);

Mary Jean (born September 26, 1919 Logan, Colorado, died Feburary 14, 2000 Pueblo, Colorado);

Lyle Edwin (born January 26, 1922 Logan, Colorado, died May 18, 1942 Denver, Colorado) and

Robert Calvin (born September 28, 1926 Proctor, Logan, Colorado, died March 11, 2009 Greeley, Weld, Colorado).

Found in the 1920 census at Mercer, Logan, Colorado: James O Mafey 35, Josephine M Mafey 32, Orval J Mafey 12, Harold I Mafey 6, Milmar A Mafey 4 yrs 11 mos, Mary G Mafey 4 mos.

Found in the 1930 census at Peetz, Logan, Colorado: James Maley 46, Josephine Maley 42, Harold Maley 16, Wilmer Maley 15, Mary Maley 10, Lyle Maley 8, Calvin Maley 3.

Found in the 1940 census at Buckley, Jefferson, Nebraska: James O Maley 55 Mary J Maley 52, Mary J Maley 20, Lyle E Maley 18, Robert C Maley 13.

James O Maley died January 6, 1975 at Del Norte, Rio Grande, Colorado and is buried at the Grandview Cemetery, Fort Collins, Larimer, Colorado.

Obituary from Greeley Daily Tribune, Greeley, Colorado, January 3, 1975:

James O. Maley of Del Norte, father of the Reverand Harold I. Maley, former pastor of the First Assembly of God church, died Thursday, January 2, in Del Norte. He was 90 years old. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Grandview Cemetery at Fort Collins, with the Rev. Harold Maley officiating.

Maley was born at Stanwood, Iowa on April 5, 1884. He was a retired farmer and as a younger man, had farmed in Nebraska and northeastern Colorado. He had been in failing health for some time.

First married Irene Terry February 6, 1907 at Stanwood, Cedar, Iowa; 2 children.
James married Mary Josephine Carothers at Garner, Hancock, Iowa on June 20, 1912. She died April 29, 1970. Maley was a member of the First Assembly of God in Greeley, CO.

Survivors include three sons: the Rev. Harold I Maley of Sheridan, Wyoming, Orville James Maley of Springfield, Missouri, and Robert Maley of Del Norte; 2 daughters: Mrs. Doris Daugherty of Pasadena, California and Miss Mary Maley of Pueblo, CO; 10 (or 14?) grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
